Lafayette Exhibition Small Gallery

Description

In this, the second gallery of the exhibition, you will see, among other things, images of Lafayette made later in his life, including some that were created during or soon after the grand, farewell tour that he made of the United States in 1824 and 1825. Over the thirteen months of that tour, he visited every one of the twenty-six states that were then in the Union and, it is estimated, was seen by over half of the population of the country.

Obviously, Lafayette had achieved the glory and status as a hero that he had sought from childhood. For Americans, who named hundreds of towns, counties, roads, and other places after him, he was truly a citizen of two worlds and Our Marquis.

You can learn more about each of the paintings, sculptures, prints, letters, artifacts, and other objects in this exhibition from the labels that are located near each. We also encourage you to obtain a copy of the exhibition catalog mentioned at the beginning of this recordingand return to the exhibition as many times as you like between now and the date of its closing in September.
