Dead Owl

Roni Horn (USA, 1955)

Dead Owl

Description

The sheer diversity of Roni Horn's work – and not merely in her choice of media, encompassing artists' books, drawings, photographs and sculptures – is also manifested in its far-reaching thematic content. As multifaceted as her oeuvre is, however, some of the artist's tastes do crop up time and again, such as her insightful engagement with language and its cultural, social and poetic potential.

Roni Horn possesses a profound sensitivity to the fluid factors of thought as applied to the theme of change, and this is often expressed in her photographic pairings. This is another characteristic hallmark of the artist's body of work. She pairs up ostensibly identical images – for example, the two owls pictured here – to sensitize the attentive viewer to fine nuances and deviations.

The artist, who studied at Yale, has shown her work in countless international solo and group exhibitions, including at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Tate Modern in London, the Lambert Collection in Avignon and the Whitney Museum in New York.

Roni Horn currently lives in Reykjavik and New York.
