Petah Coyne

Untitled #820S-01

Description

Petah Coyne has continued to explore sculpture as suspended form steadily through her career. She has employed a large variety of materials wood, hair, sand, silk flowers, etc. Her work has also been largely monochromatic. Here she has collaged the forms from an exuberant array of feathers, millinery birds, flowers, bows and ribbons attached to a wire mesh armature. The entire assemblage is covered with translucent layers of wax, which creates an overlay of texture. It is also redolent of votive offering candles and flickering light in dark interiors. The piece seems to hover in spite of its considerable weight, and suggests the transitoriness of life. *Note - this artwork is accessible to the public by appointment only.
