Zilm’s Password Paintings are created using real passphrases that offer potential access to private data. Employing a password strength-checking program, Zilm has explored the value placed upon spacing and terminology that determines the durability of passwords that have come to govern our digital existence. Similarly engaging with virtual realities are Zilm’s Cheats. These works adopt the language of computer game cheats—a series of instructions that allow for individuals to circumvent the established gameplay benchmarks. The artist’s version applies these cheats to real life situations, making references ranging from politics to pop culture. The result is instructions to achieve surreal and essentially unobtainable life outcomes.
