Bolotowsky was interested in expressing an ideal of balance, order, and harmony. Using color and elements of pure geometry, he attempted to create a perfect tension and rhythm.Large Tondo is characteristically elegant, with its subtle interplay of color, shape, and line. Composed of four asymmetrical quadrants, two of white and two of a pale lemon yellow, the painting has a rich blue vertical band in the bottom left quadrant. The overall rhythm and tension is heightened by the four thin black lines that run the full height of the canvas and effectively counterbalance its circular shape. The round canvas seems to spin like a wheel, yet Bolotowsky's use of linear elements locks the circle in place.
