This beautiful, simplified bird form has an unusual patina, or surface treatment. The golden color might make you think of wood rather than the bronze that it is. Artist Dashwood, is known for his multi-colored patinas. He sometimes breaks convention by splattering on a mixture of all three commonly used chemicals –liver sulphate, ferric nitrate and cupric nitrate. This method shocks traditionalists, but once oxidized, the resulting chemical color is brilliant.
