TV Man or Five-Piece Cube With Strange Hole

David Bakalar

TV Man or Five-Piece Cube With Strange Hole

Description

Created from both conventional and innovative materials such as bronze, granite, marble, aluminum and stainless steel, David Bakalars abstract, organic forms show the influence of Constructivism as well as Surrealism as well as the artists affinity for biology and science. Their harmoniously arranged geometric forms suggest natural systems and manifest an underlying potential and kinetic energy. MITs TV Man or Five Piece Cube with Strange Hole incorporates the negative space surrounding the work as a primary component. A gift to the Institute in 1993, Bakalars composition of five pieces of mountain granite appears uniquely anthropomorphic in form.
