Description
A reproduction of a block and shell desk and bookcase, made by Alan Breed, 1993. The original, attributed to the Newport, Rhode Island, cabinetmaker, John Goddard, ca. 1760-1775, was sold at auction in 1989 for $12.1 million. The proceeds were donated to the John Nicholas Brown Center December 31, 1988, to fund the renovation of the Nightingale-Brown house and to endow the Center.
